Everyone Had a WILD Time at Camp!

Schools are finally back in session and we’re just a few weeks away from saying goodbye to summer. The carefree, sun-kissed days of summer are now becoming just a memory of another great season of swimming, sunbathing, cooking out and gardening.

So as we start to prepare for fall and all of the wonderful things associated with this season, we fondly look back at our biggest event each summer at The Hope Center: Camp Wild.

This year was another fantastic year for the kids in Hagerstown who attended Camp Wild. Approximately 250 different kids attended Camp Wild this year. The campers were able to partake in such adventures as Tiger Trail: Obstacle Course, Rana Ranch, The Snake Charmer, Zulu, Expedition Panda which is our 600 ft zip line, hiking, hayrides, and, of course, swimming!

In addition to all those exciting outdoor activities, campers enjoyed mornings at the Trinity Center where they played games, sang & danced, participated in interactive Bible lessons, engaged in small group discussion, and ate some pretty good lunches.

Each year it is our privilege to host Camp Wild for free to the kids in Hagerstown’s neighborhoods. Over the course of the four weeks of camp, we target and reach out to kids in the West End, Jonathan Street area, Noland Village, South End, Frederick Manor, and East Side areas of our city.

By providing free transportation to and from our facilities, as well as providing free registration, food, prizes and activities, this is a genuine mission outreach to our city that’s been taking place since the 1970’s.

Bringing Camp Wild to life is not an easy task. There are so many people involved with everything from set up and construction, to helping each day during camp, and the process of cleaning up and tearing down everything after it’s all said and done. Our volunteers logged in approximately 4, 056 hours for Camp Wild 2017! Volunteers help us keep our camp operational each year and free for all the kids who attend. That’s something that each person involved should be proud of.

We’re thankful for volunteer groups from Antietam Rec, Maugansville Bible Brethren, and the many volunteers from Tri-State Fellowship. In addition to all those volunteers, we have many other individuals give so much of their time and resources to helping reach Hagerstown’s kids for Christ. We are so thankful for each and every person who volunteered, donated, and prayed for Camp Wild 2017.

Since many of you might not have been able to daily be a part of Camp Wild we wanted to post some pictures to let you feel like you were there with us each day. These pictures are a tiny snapshot into the fun everyone had at Camp Wild. This is a combination of all four weeks together. If you’d like to see more pics go to http://www.hagerstownhopecenter.com and click on ‘Year in Pictures’ under the ‘More’ tab on the upper tool bar. We hope you enjoy these pictures as much as the campers and staff who are in them!

And just because Camp Wild is over for the year doesn’t mean that all the fun of Wildside Youth Ministries is too. Wildside has a great lineup of activities this fall including:

Camp Wild 2015: Gallery of Smiles

Camp Wild 2015 was an incredible summer for both our campers and staff! We had over 230 kids experience all the action & adventure of our free summer day camp. There are plenty of activities for our campers to get involved in each day. From learning about Jesus, to building relationships, to creating art, hiking, swimming, exploring and playing, campers at Camp Wild are never lacking for anything exciting to do each day.

Since Camp Wild is free for any kid ages 5-12, we rely on the generous support of all of our donors in the area. We want to say thank you to all the individuals, churches, civic clubs, businesses and other organizations who helped to underwrite the cost of Camp Wild 2015. We appreciate your support and your commitment to reaching these precious kids for Christ and giving them a summer experience they will always remember.

The theme for Camp Wild 2014 is excellence. The campers are being taught & challenged to be excellent in everything they do. They’re learning that no matter what task is presented to them, they should always do their best and try their hardest. God wants the best for them, and in return, they need to give their best to God.

Not only are the campers learning about new cultures, conservation & outdoor survival skills, they are also being taught about missionaries and how others travel the world to reach people for Christ.

Camp Wild is more than just another day camp. It’s an exciting world full of new adventures, enchanting places, and valuable life lessons centered around Christ. The kids who attend Camp Wild aren’t just aimlessly wasting away their days. They are learning new things, creating strong bonds with staff, and, most importantly, getting closer to God.

We’re so thankful to the staff, volunteers & donors who have helped to make Camp Wild 2014 possible. The vast majority of our supporters & friends won’t be able to see the spiritual & physical impact of Camp Wild on the lives of these kids, but in Heaven, you will. Lives are being changed, hearts are being won, and Satan is being defeated. Children are the most precious resource on earth and we’re thankful for the opportunity to reach them, teach them, and love them.

Camp Wild 2013 – Part 1

Camp Wild has come & gone. Fortunately, we’ve got plenty of pictures to share so you can relive the adventure of the summer for tons of kids in Hagerstown.

Camp Wild is the summer day camp ministry of Wildside Youth. Wildside Youth is proudly sponsored by The Hope Center.

For nearly 40 years, Camp Wild, formerly Conoco Camp, has been a local, free day camp for kids. This camp provides a fun & safe environment for many inner-city and at-risk kids ages 5-12. While there is plenty of adventure & excitement at Camp Wild, the main focus of each week is to introduce the campers to Jesus and have them learn about His love and their value to Him.

Even though Camp Wild is over for the year, there is still plenty of fun planned from Wildside Youth. Go to www.wildsideyouth.com for more details and information on various activities and programs.

But now, enjoy some pictures from Camp Wild 2013. And keep checking back for more pics from Camp Wild and updates about other activities taking place at The Hope Center!

The Faces of Camp Wild 2012 – Part 2

Every year hundreds of excited kids from Hagerstown are given the week of their life at Camp Wild! This free camp is for kids ages 5-12. They enjoy activities like group games, singing/dancing, free time in the game rooms, interactive lessons about Jesus, lunch, hay rides, nature trails, swimming, tubing and flying through the trees on a zip line!

Everyone has a great time at Camp Wild. And even though it’s over, you can join us in reliving the summer of adventure through these pictures!

Camp Wild 2012 is Almost Here!!

Can you believe that in only 2 weeks Wildside will welcome the first campers to Camp Wild 2012?!

The fun begins on Monday, July 9th. Campers will start the day with fun indoor activities at the Trinity Center and Sanctuary at Wildside. Morning activities include games, singing, interactive Bible lessons, small group time, free time in the rec rooms and a delicious lunch.

In the afternoon the kids are taken to the outdoor facility located on the Conococheague Creek just a few miles outside of Hagerstown in Cearfoss. Outdoor activities include swimming, tubing, a zip line, hay rides, hikes,  art projects, immersive cultural learning, environmental awareness activities and so much more!

All this fun is provided totally free of charge for all the campers! Many campers that attend Camp Wild cannot afford to go to other local camps that charge a fee. Also, many of these campers are not fortunate enough to be able to go away on a vacation with their families.

Camp Wild has become an important part of the summer activities for kids all throughout Hagerstown. Not only does the camp provide fun activities and an escape from TV  and video games each day, it also provides Wildside staff a chance to build relationships with the kids that last well past the last day of camp. But most importantly, Camp Wild provides us with the opportunity to teach these awesome kids about Jesus! Each day provides countless opportunities for the kids to see and hear who Jesus really is and why He’s so important to their lives.

And providing this camp free-of-charge is essential to the success of the program. We don’t operate this camp as a way of making money or supporting the ministry. Camp Wild IS the ministry. The majority of campers that come to Camp Wild are lower-income, at-risk children who do not regularly attend church. It’s important to us to provide them with a fun camp experience that will not only enhance their summer but also have the opportunity to change their lives for eternity!

If you know of kids that would benefit from this exciting summer camp program then please contact Camp Wild immediately. Space is limited and is first-come-first-served. But it never hurts to ask! Email Camp Wild at info@wildsideyouth.com or call 301.739.1165 and ask for Camp Wild. You can also find Camp Wild on facebook at www.facebook.com/campwildusa

If you are interested in financially helping Camp Wild then please call our office at 301.739.1165 or email us at hagerstownrescue@verizon.net to find out how you can give*. If you would like to give by credit card, just go to our website at www.hagerstownrescue.org. Locate the red box on the left side of the homepage and click on the “Give To HRM” tab. Follow the simple instructions to safely donate via PayPal.

If you are unable to financially help, please don’t forget to pray for Camp Wild this summer. Pray for safety during the four weeks of camp. Pray that God will really work and move in the lives of the staff and campers. Money is important to keeping the doors open and the vans running but prayer is truly the most important resource to the success of the entire program.

For more info on Camp Wild, just go to www.campwildusa.com to see pics and videos of past years and to get all the latest updates on Camp Wild 2012!

*Any funds received over and above what is needed to fund Camp Wild will be used for other programs and services of The Hope Center.
