Rock the Run 5K is Coming – Register Now!

Even though it’s early January there’s nothing better than future planning all the spring and outdoor related events to come once the frigid weather finally gives way to the earth springing back to life.

And since we’re all already day-dreaming about spring, now’s a perfect time to invite you to plan to join us for our 4th annual Rock the Run 5K in April!

RTR Pirate Princess

The initial 5K was introduced as an event during our 6oth Anniversary Diamond Celebration year in 2015. But it continues today as a way to raise money and awareness about the work we do to combat hunger and homelessness in Hagerstown while also giving friends in the community the chance to get outside and have some fun while supporting this ministry.

Rock the Run will take place on April 28th, 2018, at Fairgrounds Park in Hagerstown. Registration is already open and is only $20 until February 27th. Go to http://www.rocktherunhagerstown.com to register today.

Rock the Run 5K offers a fun course that begins and ends at Fairgrounds Park but also ventures into the beautiful, historic neighborhoods surrounding the park. It’s a great race for avid runners and also those who are just starting out or just want to be a part of the fun.

For those who are serious about running or are training, we are teaming up with Racine MultiSports again this year to provide a professional, quality race experience complete with chips to track your time and progress. And awards will be given to those top finishers. Learn more about Racine MultiSports by visiting http://www.racinemultisports.com.

But for those who just want to come out, have some healthy fun and support a great cause, we’ve added something interesting for you this year – a pirates vs princess theme! This year we’re having some fun by encouraging participants to dress up in costumes and accessories (remember to be comfortable enough to run/walk the course) as either a pirate or any form of princess/royal.

In addition to the costumes, we’ll be having all sorts of fun additions to the race this year including a competition between the pirates and princesses for a food drive. In past years we’ve had a drop box at the race where any participant could drop off food donations for our pantry and food services. This year we’re making it a competition between pirates and princesses to see which side can bring in the most food donations!

To participate in Rock the Run you do not have to dress up like a pirate or a princess. This is totally optional and just for some fun. If you’re coming to run the race while supporting a good cause then we definitely appreciate it and hope that you’ll register today. If you’re looking for some random good fun then grab that eyepatch or a crown and register today too! We want as many people in the community joining us in this fun event and running/walking to help us end hunger and homelessness in Hagerstown.

To learn more about Rock the Run: Pirates vs Princess, and to go ahead and register, go to http://www.rocktherunhagerstown.com. And don’t forget to spread the word to all your friends, family, Sunday School class, civic club, coworkers, and more!

See you in April!

Our Sponsors Rock!

Rock the run logo jpgOrganizing our first 5K has been fun and challenging. We’re so excited for this opportunity to bring our community together for a day of physical activity while also raising awareness of the homeless and hungry in Hagerstown.

In order for this event to be successful and help people in need, we, ourselves, needed help from others.

And that’s why we love our sponsors so much!

These individuals and businesses help underwrite the expense of hosting such an event. Money raised by participant involvement can go towards the programs and ministries at The Hope Center that help the homeless, hungry, and hurting people in our community.

So please be sure to thank these businesses for their support of this ministry by using them the next time you need their services. And be sure to spread the word to your friends, families, co-workers, and others about these wonderful local businesses.

Volunteers Needed: Spring Party-in-the-Park!

In March, our 60th Anniversary year-long celebration kicks off with a great outreach opportunity to the community, and you’re invited to be a part of it!

We’re hosting a Party-in-the-Park on March 28th at Wheaton Park in Hagerstown. Wheaton Park is not far from where The Hope Center started on Jail Alley just off of Jonathan Street. It’s only fitting that our first 60th Anniversary activity starts right back where we first started.

Our spring Party-in-the-Park is a great opportunity for us to build relationships with families and get to know the Jonathan Street neighborhood which is located practically in our own backyard!

Spring Party in the Park Volunteer

The purpose of the Party-in-the-Park is to give neighborhood families a place to come to enjoy games, prizes, entertainment, fun activities, delicious food while also allowing us to minister to them by providing free services like personal care items, family photos, food, prayer, and more. We want to provide the community with a family day full of great activities while also giving them the opportunity to get to know The Hope Center, our services, and the Christian community of Hagerstown a little better.

We’re looking for volunteers to help us bring this event to life. We will have several different areas for volunteers to help, including prayer tents, crowd control, food service, social services distribution, games, prize distribution, friendship liaisons, and more. We’ll need people to help set up, tear down, and clean up.

No matter what your personality type is, we’ve got a volunteer spot for you! Invite your church, small group, family, friends, and co-workers to join you in volunteering. Go to http://www.volunteerhagerstown.com to learn more about our spring Party-in-the-Park and other upcoming 60th Anniversary activities.

If you’re unable to volunteer there is still opportunity for you to help us. In order for us to keep this event free for the community, we are in need of donations of certain items. Below is a list of the various items needed for our Party-in-the-Park. We are extremely thankful if you are able to provide any of these items for our event. Items may be donated to our Administrative Office Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5pm.

  • Bubbles
  • Crayons
  • Smarties candies
  • Small rubber balls
  • Jump ropes
  • Yo-yos
  • Small activity/puzzle/coloring books
  • Individually wrapped candy
  • Hot dogs
  • Hot dog buns

Also be sure to check out our 60th Anniversary website, http://www.hopecenter60.com to learn more about the history of The Hope Center, check out pictures from the last 60 years, and get the scoop on all the activities planned for 2015.

You Ready to Rock the Run?

It won’t be long until we host our first 5K Race/Walk in Hagerstown!

Our Rock the Run: A Race for Hope will take place on Saturday, April 25th at Fairgrounds Park in Hagerstown.

5k Race Sign Feb 1

We are dedicated to helping our neighbors who are homeless & hungry get the shelter, food, and support they need during tough times. This race is just another way for all of our friends in the area to come together and show support and love for those who are struggling.

Money raised through this race will help to fund our homeless (transient) shelter which operates every day of the year. We provide hot showers, toiletries, food, and a warm bed for thousands of homeless people each year.

And we’ve been providing these same services to people since 1955 at no cost to our guests or the tax payer!

Participating in this race helps to make sure that the less fortunate have a safe, comfortable and loving place to rest, relax, and refresh all in the name of Christ.

You ready to help? Go to http://www.rocktherunhagerstown.com to register. And be sure to spread the word to your family, friends, coworkers, church, civic clubs, and more!

We’ll also have our donation trucks available at the race if you have gently used items for our Thrift Stores and Family Assistance ministry as well as food items for our food bank.

If you would like to talk to someone about Rock the Run: A Race for Hope, please call 301.739.1165.
