Yo Ho, Matey! It’s Talk Like a Pirate Day!

Everyone loves a pirate and a lot of us would love to be one. But unless you work at Disney World, talking like a pirate on a regular basis might draw some funny looks. Fortunately for all the wannabe scallywags out there, there are two days out of the year where it’s absolutely ok to be a pirate – and one of those days is today! It’s Talk Like a Pirate Day!!

And the second pirate day, you ask? Well it’s our annual Rock the Run 5K: Pirates vs Princess! One Saturday a year Fairgrounds Park is overrun by pirates, princesses, knights, mermaids, and more running for fun and a great cause.

RTR Pirate Princess

On Saturday, April 27th, 2019, anyone and everyone can dress up, act, and run like a pirate! This is your chance to show your pirate side and raise money for a great cause – helping us combat homelessness and hunger in Hagerstown.

We’re currently in the beginning stages of renovating our kitchen, dining, and pantry areas at The Hope Center. Our kitchen feeds hundreds of men, women, and kids a year. Meals are served to anyone in the community who is hungry – no matter age or housing status. But because of how many people we serve, we need to improve and expand our food services area. With a brand new, up-to-date kitchen, larger dining room and more efficient pantry, we’ll be able to help make sure no one in Hagerstown and the surrounding area are ever without something to eat.

Our sponsors and every person who registers to participate in our Rock the Run 5K: Pirates vs Princess will be a part of helping to feed the hungry in our community.

And who says helping those in need can’t be fun? That’s why we encourage each participant to dress up and invite their family and friends to join them. We even have a 1 mile Kids Fun Run for the smaller buccaneers in your family! From our photo booth, to kids activities, themed music and more, Rock the Run 5K: Pirates vs Princess is a legitimate race for hope with a fun twist.

So go ahead and mark your calendars now! Saturday, April 27th, 2019, at Fairgrounds Park in Hagerstown. For more info about our 5K please visit http://www.rocktherunhagerstown.com.

So to all you scallywags out there surrounded by landlubbers, happy Talk Like a Pirate Day! And we’ll see you and your best Jack Sparrow inspired self at Rock the Run this April!

Kids Had a Frightfully Good Time at Fall-O-Ween!

On October 21st, the Trinity Center was full of superheroes, angels, football players, pirates, witches, and even a hobbit!

FallOWeen 2014 (17)

Wildside Youth Ministries hosted their annual Fall-O-Ween party for all the little ghosts & goblins of Hagerstown.

Over 60 kids came to the Trinity Center to play Halloween-themed carnival games, win lots of prizes, and get tons of candy, and chow down on some great food.

Playing all the various games wasn’t the only fun the kids had. They also enjoyed the open space to run around pretending to be their costumed characters.

From kids, to volunteers, to parents in attendance, it seemed like everyone had a great evening of haunts, treats, and lots of tricks!

Wildside Youth’s next big event party is “It’s a Wildside Thanksgiving” on Tuesday, November 18th from 5-7pm in the Trinity Center. Then on December 9th the Trinity Center becomes the North Pole for “Ping’s Famous Igloo Carnival”. This Christmas party is from 5-7pm as well.

Along with these awesome parties, Wildside hosts Sunday Night Wild each week from 7-8pm in the Wildside Sanctuary.

All Wildside Youth events are free for kids ages 5-12. To learn more about Wildside Youth at The Hope Center, go to http://www.wildsideyouth.com, email info@wildsideyouth.com or call 301.739.1165.

Straight Ahead Youth Group Gets Wild!!

Every year, for about the past 10 years, a group of young people from Everett, PA, has traveled to Hagerstown to spend a day with the kids who attend Camp Wild.

And just like in the past, this wonderful group of young people showed their happy faces on Wednesday of week 3 of Camp Wild 2012. The Straight Ahead Youth Group from Community Grace Brethren Church drives over an hour to come hang out with our campers. This year they even brought a young lady from France!

The group spent the morning with the campers in the Trinity Center playing games, interacting in small group time and eating lunch. Then in the afternoon the group followed the campers out to the Camp Wild outdoor facility where they were able to swim, ride hayrides, go on hikes and play sports with the campers.

Kids always love having fun, energetic teenagers to spend time with. And even though this group is only able to come one day, the impact that they make on the life of one of these precious kids could last for eternity!

We want to thank the Straight Ahead Youth Group for coming every year to spend some time with the campers at Camp Wild!
