“Because He lives, I can face tomorrowBecause He lives, all fear is goneBecause I know He holds the futureAnd life is worth the living, just because He lives”
It’s been quite a year for all of us. Hardship, sacrifice, stress, fear, and for many, the loss of a loved one. But the power of what we celebrate this day is the freedom from all those feelings and the eternal promise of HOPE.
The morning of the third day the disciples were still living in fear and disbelief over the tragedy and loss of Christ’s crucifixion. But with the break of dawn came the Son rise that would forever change the story of humankind.
As the sun rose today so did the hope of God’s promise and the reminder of His great love! Easter is a love story from God to you. When you’re feeling alone, when you’re scared, when you’re feeling hopeless, just remember that Jesus was saying your name as He hung on that cross. And he was thinking of you when He defeated death and walked out of that tomb. You are valuable. You are precious. You are loved – and the Easter story is proof. Your pain, hurt, fear, and sadness are His now. Tell Him your pain. Tell Him your fear. And trust Him to fight for you – because He already has. And He won. For you.
“The thought of my homelessness and pain is bitter poison. I think constantly and my spirit is depressed. Yet HOPE returns when I remember one thing. The Lord’s unfailing love and mercy still continue, fresh as the morning, as sure as the sunrise. The Lord is all I have, so in Him I put my HOPE.” Lamentations 3: 19-26
May the HOPE of our risen Lord give you peace, joy, and victory today! He is risen! He is risen indeed!
Spring is just a few days away! While all the snow this winter had its pretty moments, we’re definitely excited about seeing flowers and trees blooming and all the beautiful colors of spring.
And with the arrival of spring comes a favorite part of the season: spring cleaning! As you begin the process of cleaning out your house and even redecorating keep us in mind!
Your donation of gently used items like clothing, shoes, housewares, decorations, toys, books, accessories, craft items, linens, and furniture can become a huge asset to helping people in need in our community!
And right now our Thrift Stores are in need of furniture donations. If you are remodeling your house or just have gently used furniture to get rid of we’re happy to take it off your hands! And if you’re in the Hagerstown area we can even come and pick up your gently used furniture! To learn more about our furniture donation pick up or to schedule a time please call 301.739.1165.

And for neighbors who are in desperate need, your donated goods can be given for free in our voucher program. The voucher program helps individuals and families in dire need receive free clothing and more.

We’re a few days into a new month – and the arrival of a new month means a new Pantry Item of the Month!
This month we’re not asking for a specific food donation. Instead we need heavy duty paper plates and/or 8oz cups for hot beverages.
We’re still serving all meals in the Trinity Center due to social distancing guidelines from the pandemic and also because of the kitchen expansion construction project. And because of all that we are still using disposable serving items for all of our daily meals for our residents and guests.
Earlier in the pandemic we asked for donations of products like plates, cups, and plastic serveware and the community came through in a tremendous way! Now we’re at the point where we desperately need more disposable plates and cups.
If you would like to donate heavy duty paper plates and/or 8oz cups (for hot beverages) please drop them off to our Administrative Offices during business hours (M-F 8:15am-11:30am and 12:15pm-4pm). If our office times don’t work for you then please call us at 301.739.1165 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange a time that suits.
If you’d prefer shopping online at your favorite vendor like AmazonSmile* then please use 125 N. Prospect St, Hagerstown, MD 21740 as our delivery address.
We truly appreciate any donation of these items! Thank you for helping to make a difference in our community! If you’d like more info on our food services programs or any of the other programs we provide the community please visit hagerstownhopecenter.com.

Our 3rd Community Grocery Giveaway was a huge success!!
We hosted the quarterly event on February 26th as a way to help anyone in the community in need of grocery assistance. While we hand out food bags to anyone in need each month, we’ve started hosting these large grocery events to help give more people access to food. This event is basically a build-your-own-food-bag type of activity. We provide the bags and then allow each person to decide the items from each table they’d like to take. This way we’re making sure people take the foods they love and want.
And at this Community Grocery Giveaway we added personal care items like soap, shampoo, lip balm, toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, and hand soap.
In the 2 hours of the event we gave food to over 245 people!
Our guests so were happy and thankful for the grocery assistance. We want to thank all the individuals, families, groups, churches, and schools who’ve been donating food to our pantry. Your donations make a huge difference each and every day but they were especially beneficial at our giveaway. Your generosity not only provided important food assistance to so many people but it also provided hope and made a lot of people very happy!
An event like this couldn’t be so successful without the help and support of so many of our staff and volunteers. We want to thank everyone who helped in one way or another to make this event happen. There’s a lot of work that went into this event including moving boxes upon boxes of food. Thank you to everyone who served our community during this giveaway! We are so thankful and proud to have such wonderful staff and volunteers!!!
We’re planning on hosting another Community Grocery Giveaway in the spring. But until then, if you are in need of grocery assistance please call our office at 301.739.1165 to reserve a food bag for pickup. We will continue to offer bags of groceries each month so please do not hesitate to get a bag of food for yourself or family. Also, if you’re in need of hot meals and friendly company then please join us each day for our community meals. For more info on our daily meals please call 301.739.1165. And remember, we serve meals every day of the year including holidays and inclement weather.
If you’d like to donate food or learn more about our community food programs please call 301.739.1165 or email email@example.com.
Our renovation & expansion project is moving right along! Thanks to some great weather this fall, and a great construction team, we are currently on schedule. The project will hopefully be completed by March 2021.
Once completed the expansion will give our kitchen staff & volunteers a bigger, more efficient kitchen to prepare and serve meals. It will also increase the seating capacity of our dining room allowing us to safely feed more people. And it will triple the size of our pantry allowing us more space to store food for our daily meals and our food bag program for the community.
We are currently raising support to repay the construction loans for this project. To learn more about our construction project and to donate please visit Online Giving | hagerstownhopecenter
It’s a new month so we have a new Pantry Item of the Month!
This January we’re asking for donations of pancake mix & syrup. We’ll gladly accept any brand, flavor, or size – including bulk size – of mix & syrup.

To donate in person please drop off items to our Administrative Office (parking lot located at 215 W. Church St) during business hours M-F from 8:15am – 4pm (office is closed 11:30am – 12:15pm for lunch). If those hours don’t work for you then please call us at 301.739.1165 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule a time that suits.

We hope each of you have a safe, healthy and happy holiday celebrations this year! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
2020 has been an absolutely difficult year for all of us but November dealt The Hope Center family a painful blow with the sudden passing of Danny Sluss and Reggie Carroll.
Danny graduated from Foundations Life Recovery, our 13-month rehabilitation program, in February of this year and was doing great in his new life. After graduating Danny had gotten his own place and had gotten a job at FedEx. He was also working to get his license again, which was one of his post-graduation goals he set for himself. Unfortunately, Danny passed away unexpectedly in his hometown in Delaware.
Reggie was a current resident in our Foundations program who contracted COVID-19 and passed away during his recovery from the virus. Reggie came to us from DC to seek help with his addictions. While in the program he worked in our kitchen and was a deskman during the day. Reggie was so close to graduating from the program and was so excited to achieve his goal of completing the program and being free from his addictions.
If you had the pleasure of meeting or working with either of these men you would know how kind, friendly, helpful, and genuine they were. It was a delight to know both of them and to have been able to be a part of their victory story.
Please pray for the families and loved ones of each of these men. Our hearts are broken and we know their families are hurting as well.
The passing of each of these men is tragic in its own way, but we can rejoice in knowing that both are in the protective arms of their Savior now. When these precious men left this earth they were instantly welcomed into their eternal home. Danny & Reggie both had a personal relationship with Christ and we take comfort in knowing that they are both at peace now.
Please remember to pray for the men currently enrolled in Foundations, all of our graduates, and for the future men who will be coming to seek help. This is not an easy fight during the program nor any easier after graduation. The stakes are high and Satan knows exactly how to destroy. Please continue to pray for strength and power for the guys who’ve had victory in Christ. Each day is a battle and we so sincerely pray for victory for our graduates as they venture back into their world.
Also remember to pray for the vulnerable in our society and those who are currently physically fighting COVID-19. For some of us it’s not a big deal but for others it’s a life & death situation. Please remember these vulnerable and valuable people and wear a mask to help protect them from this deadly virus. And join us in praying that the vaccine works and can help us protect our friends and family from the virus.
As we say our farewells to Danny and Reggie we’re reminded about the one fact of each of these men that matters so deeply – they had found their victory in Christ! This song has always felt like an anthem or fight song for the Church but now, more than ever, it has such a powerful message about the lives of these two precious men, Danny & Reggie:
“I heard an old, old story, how a Savior came from glory How He gave His life on Calvary to save a wretch like me I heard about His groaning, of His precious blood’s atoning Then I repented of my sins and won the victory
Oh victory in Jesus, my Savior forever He sought me and bought me with His redeeming blood He loved me ‘ere I knew Him and all my love is due Him He plunged me to victory beneath the cleansing flood
I heard about His healing, of His cleansing power revealing How He made the lame to walk again and ’caused the blind to see And then I cried, “Dear Jesus, come and heal my broken spirit” And somehow Jesus came and brought to me the victory
I heard about a mansion He has built for me in glory. And I heard about the streets of gold beyond the crystal sea; About the angels singing, and the old redemption story, And some sweet day I’ll sing up there The song of victory.
Oh victory in Jesus, my Savior forever He sought me and He bought me with His redeeming blood He loved me ‘ere I knew Him and all my love is due Him He plunged me to victory beneath the cleansing flood”
