Your gift during Washington County Gives will help us pay for our much needed construction project. Our food services expansion will more than double the previous kitchen & dining room space. This will allow us to feed more people more efficiently and give us more space in our dining room for more neighbors to have a place to eat.

Our food services are free for anyone in the community. Your gift during Washington County Gives helps us continue to feed neighbors in need and combat hunger and food insecurity in our community.

Please join others in the community and make a plan to donate to The Hope Center tomorrow during Washington County Gives!

Washington County Gives Returns May 11th!

It’s almost time for Washington County Gives 2021! Washington County Gives is a 24-hour day of online giving benefitting non-profits in Washington County.

From midnight until 11:59pm on Tuesday, May 11th, you can join other generous neighbors in supporting The Hope Center by giving online at washingtoncountygives.org.

This year we’re asking the community to support our major food services expansion and renovation project.

The expansion and renovation of our food services area is in full swing. In fact, at the end of April we were able to move into our brand new kitchen! The new kitchen will provide our food services staff and volunteers a much larger and more efficient space to prepare and serve multiple meals a day to our residents and community guests.

Now that the new kitchen is completed, the construction project has moved into the dining room where our old kitchen has been torn out and will become a part of a much larger dining room. This expanded dining room will allow us to seat twice the amount of people per meal.

In addition to the new kitchen and dining room, we’ve been able to have a brand new pantry which is 3x’s bigger than the previous pantry. This huge pantry will provide ample room for all the food we need to create meals and allow us more storage for our food bank program and community food giveaway events.

This is a much needed project as we have not made any major changes or improvements to our kitchen since moving into our building in the late 1950’s. This construction project will allow us to meet the current needs and also be prepared to better reach people in need in the future.

Please consider partnering with us to feed our community by donating a gift to us during Wsahington County Gives. To give during the event is quick and easy and will make a huge impact in our goal to end hunger and food insecurity.

You can donate to our cause any time on May 11th. We’ll provide a link from our Facebook page and also our website which will lead you directly to our WCG page to help make donating even quicker for you.

And please encourage your family, friends, church, coworkers, and social media followers to join you in giving to our construction project.

Washington County Gives is Finally Here!

After being postponed in May due to COVID-19, we’re excited to announce that Washington County Gives is officially happening!

On Tuesday, September 22nd the internet will come alive with a 24-hour online giving event! Washington County Gives is a chance for local non-profits to raise valuable funding for the year to come.

And this is a big year for us. Not only is it our 65th anniversary but we’re also beginning a huge expansion and renovation of our food services area at The Hope Center!

Our kitchen, dining room, and pantry are all in desperate need of an update and expansion as the need to feed people in our area has grown significantly over time.

Our expanded food services area will feature a new, updated kitchen so our staff and volunteers can better prepare and serve food for a larger crowd. Our dining room will increase in size and layout to allow more people to dine and do so in a much more efficient manor. And our pantry will double in size to allow us more space to store food that is used for daily meals and our food bag program for people in need.

This expansion and renovation is a huge undertaking. And we need your help. Not only do we ask for you to give as you can to this project, we are also asking that you help us spread the word to your social media followers, friends, family, coworkers, church, civic clubs, neighbors and anyone else who will listen! The more people involved the faster we can get this project completed and paid for.

And this is where Washington County Gives is a huge benefit. We are asking you to donate during this special online giving event but also encouraging others to join you in giving. We’ll be posting on Facebook about Washington County Gives and we’re asking you to share our posts with your Facebook friends and inspire them to give as well.

Giving during WCG is simple and we’re helping to make it as easy as possible. To learn more about giving during the 24-hour event please visit https://www.hagerstownhopecenter.com/wcg

This designated page on our website will give you the quick link you need to find our giving page for donation. We’ll include links on our Facebook and other media posts to help make it easy for you and your friends to navigate and donate with ease.

Please mark your calendar for WCG on September 22nd and make a plan to help us promote our food services expansion project to the community. Together we are fighting to end hunger in Hagerstown and surrounding communities.

We’re here to provide help for today… hope for tomorrow!

It’s Time for Washington County Gives 2019!

On Tuesday, May 7th, we’re participating in Washington County Gives 2019!

WashCo Gives 2

Washington County Gives is a unique opportunity for people in the area to donate online to various non-profits in the community.

For 24 hours the The Hope Center will be able to accept online donations through this county-wide day of fundraising. Money raised during the campaign will go towards all the programs and services provided for free at The Hope Center.

The Hope Center is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year for people in need. Whether it’s a national holiday or a blizzard, our shelter is always open and our kitchen is always cooking up something delicious!

And we provide all services and programs for FREE to people in need! And on top of that we accept NO government/tax money to operate. Thanks to profits generated from our Thrift Stores in Hagerstown and Chambersburg and through the generous donations of individuals, churches, businesses and civic groups, we are able to meet the needs of thousands of people in the greater Hagerstown area – and we’ve been doing it since 1955!

We are the oldest, continually operating homeless shelter in the area and we aren’t stopping any time soon!

A donation during Washington County Gives will help us continue to help people in need and make necessary improvements to our facilities so that we can plan the future of HOPE in Hagerstown!

We are in the beginning stages of a full refurbishment and expansion of our food services facilities. We’ve outgrown our dining room and pantry and our kitchen is in need of major renovations. Your donation will help us as we move forward in improving the food services area at The Hope Center where thousands of men, women and children receive daily fresh meals and food bag assistance. Your gift is making sure that the homeless will always have a safe place off the streets to get a hot plate of food, the elderly on fixed incomes can have access to healthy meals, and children in Hagerstown will not have to live another day of food insecurity.

Please encourage your friends, family and social circles to join you in giving to The Hope Center during Washington County Gives 2019!

Having To Do More With Less…

Times are tough.

We totally understand. We see the increase of food & energy prices and we feel the pain at the pump as well.

But we also see the pain in the faces of those who have been deeply hurt during this economic downturn. The number of women and families in need is definitely greater now than before.

We can see the evidence of the economic downturn in all the various types of people who are packing out our dining room for a free meal at our daily soup line.

Times are tough for us too. As people have been hit by the bad economy, the needs of our services have only increased. But God has been faithful in supplying our needs so that we can reach others’ needs!

We know it’s a lot to ask for your financial support but we want to give you an opportunity to give back to God in a way that will help many others that are in desperate times.

I’m sure there are plenty of other organizations and ministries that have asked for your time and money, recently or in the past. But please consider joining us in reaching your neighbors in need in Hagerstown.

Your gift will allow us to touch lives in many different ways. From homeless men, to families in need, to kids’ activities – like our free summer camp – your financial support will give us the opportunity to meet the physical needs of people while also providing us with the chance to meet their spiritual needs as well. Your gift helps us stay in business without ever accepting any tax dollars to do so!

And we want to make your giving experience as simple as possible. If you go to www.hagerstownrescue.org, you can use your credit card or PayPal account to give a donation online. On the homepage, there is a small, red box on the left side of the page with a link to ‘Give to HRM’. Just click that and you’ll go to our donation page. We use PayPal as a secure way to give online and make it easy to continue to support us. If you aren’t comfortable with giving online, please call us at 301.739.1165 or email us at hagerstownrescue@verizon.net to learn how you can partner with us and support the ministries of hope!

If your budget is stretched thin and you’re unable to give, we understand. But there are other ways for you to support us. We are always interested in people or groups that would like to volunteer. There are many different areas to get plugged into so just email us or call us to start the process. You can also go to www.hagerstownrescue.org and fill out a volunteer application.

If volunteering is not for you, consider donating any gently used clothing, shoes, housewares or furniture. Our thrift stores (Hagerstown & Chambersburg) are a vital part of keeping our ministries financially operational. When you give your items, they may be put in our stores for purchase or they could be given for free directly to people in need of various items.

You could always help keep our pantry stocked. We go through a lot of peanut butter and it’s a staple in our food bags. When you’re at the grocery store, pick up an extra jar for a family in need. You could also organize a food drive at your church, school, work or civic organization. Check out past blogs entries (look under donations or food bank) for lists of items needed.

And of course, no matter how many ways you get involved, please remember to pray for us and all the people we work with. Pray for us in your small groups, Sunday School classes, youth groups and family prayer times. Pray for our residents as they battle addictions and fight for lasting change in their lives. Pray for the homeless. Pray for the hundreds of hungry people in the area who stop by each week in need of food. Pray for the kids who are actively involved in our Wildside programs. Pray for our staff who see the effects of pain and sin, hunger and abuse in the shattered lives of people daily. And pray that God continues to supply for our needs. As we look to expand our services, we need the prayer of God’s people to help guide us and make a way for us to reach all these people in need.

Thank you for being a part of bringing real hope and change into the lives of so many! Your prayers and donations are being used to win people to Christ and meet the physical needs of men, women and kids in the Hagerstown area.
