Washington County Gives is Finally Here!

After being postponed in May due to COVID-19, we’re excited to announce that Washington County Gives is officially happening!

On Tuesday, September 22nd the internet will come alive with a 24-hour online giving event! Washington County Gives is a chance for local non-profits to raise valuable funding for the year to come.

And this is a big year for us. Not only is it our 65th anniversary but we’re also beginning a huge expansion and renovation of our food services area at The Hope Center!

Our kitchen, dining room, and pantry are all in desperate need of an update and expansion as the need to feed people in our area has grown significantly over time.

Our expanded food services area will feature a new, updated kitchen so our staff and volunteers can better prepare and serve food for a larger crowd. Our dining room will increase in size and layout to allow more people to dine and do so in a much more efficient manor. And our pantry will double in size to allow us more space to store food that is used for daily meals and our food bag program for people in need.

This expansion and renovation is a huge undertaking. And we need your help. Not only do we ask for you to give as you can to this project, we are also asking that you help us spread the word to your social media followers, friends, family, coworkers, church, civic clubs, neighbors and anyone else who will listen! The more people involved the faster we can get this project completed and paid for.

And this is where Washington County Gives is a huge benefit. We are asking you to donate during this special online giving event but also encouraging others to join you in giving. We’ll be posting on Facebook about Washington County Gives and we’re asking you to share our posts with your Facebook friends and inspire them to give as well.

Giving during WCG is simple and we’re helping to make it as easy as possible. To learn more about giving during the 24-hour event please visit https://www.hagerstownhopecenter.com/wcg

This designated page on our website will give you the quick link you need to find our giving page for donation. We’ll include links on our Facebook and other media posts to help make it easy for you and your friends to navigate and donate with ease.

Please mark your calendar for WCG on September 22nd and make a plan to help us promote our food services expansion project to the community. Together we are fighting to end hunger in Hagerstown and surrounding communities.

We’re here to provide help for today… hope for tomorrow!

Students Use Music to Inspire Hope

Hopeful Hearts (2)On Saturday, October 21st, some very talented young people took the stage at Bridge of Life Church in downtown Hagerstown for a special fundraiser to benefit The Hope Center.

These young people are all members of Youth For Christ at Barbara Ingram School for the Arts located downtown. Organized by the students in the club, this fundraiser, a first for the group, was designed to use their musical gifts and talents to entertain and inspire the audience while also raising money to help meet the needs of people in the community. Performing various songs like Go Light Your World, Heart of Worship, and It Is Well, the vocalists and instrumentalists put on a beautiful show celebrating the hope and power of our incredible God.

For the finale of the show, our residents, who are a part of our Foundations Life DSC_0075 (2)Recovery program, joined the students on stage to perform Victory in Jesus. What a touching moment to see so many people performing together in different stages of life singing about the victory they’ve each experienced through their relationship with Christ. This is exactly what hope is all about and it was a beautiful reminder that evening.

Following the concert, refreshments were served and the audience could mix and mingle with the students who performed in the show.

We want to thank the students in the Youth For Christ Club at Barbara Ingram School for the Arts for putting together such a wonderful evening of music and hope. These young people have been given a true gift from God and it’s so exciting to see them use their talents to help others. We are so appreciative of their heart to help others and so humbled that we were able to be a part of this event. Thank you to each of these incredible students and to everyone who helped them put on such a wonderful show!

Ladies’ Auxiliary Dessert Concert

On February 15th, the Ladies’ Auxiliary at The Hope Center hosted a wonderful evening of music and delicious desserts.

This was the first such dessert concert ever hosted by The Ladies’ Auxiliary. Approximately 120 people attended the event. The event was an opportunity for the Auxiliary to raise awareness of the group to begin recruiting new members.

The Jacobs Brothers, a gospel singing group out of Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, performed for the crowd. The Jacobs Brothers are well known in the Hagerstown area. They’ve been traveling as a group since 1962 and have produced more than 50 albums. During the concert, the members of the group shared their testimonies and encouraged the audience spiritually.

In addition to the Jacobs Brothers concert, those in attendance enjoyed a buffet of delicious desserts. Colette Barnett created a wonderful assortment and selection of decadent treats like cream and fresh fruit tarts, mint chocolate mousse, sour cherry tarts, cream puffs decorated with dark chocolate filigree and mandarine, lemon meringue tarts, pecan tarts and salted chocolate caramel tarts. And yes, the desserts were as delicious as they sound!

Everyone in attendance had a wonderful evening of music, spiritual encouragement and delicious treats.

We want to thank Colette Barnett and her staff for preparing the desserts. A lot of work and preparation went into this evening and we appreciate all that she and her faithful volunteers did to make the night special for all who attended.
