Imagine one giant party to celebrate everyone’s birthday. Sounds kinda wild, doesn’t it? Well Wildside Youth Ministries likes to do things a little different so they kicked off their school year party season with a huge birthday party celebration!
All the kids who attended the Birthday Bash on September 25th were able to celebrate their birthday. Each month was given a celebration and no one was left out of the fun! 52 kids ages 5-12 attended the first Wildside party of the season where they played birthday themed carnival games, painted faces, made crafts and enjoyed some great food.
But the most important part of the evening was learning about having the most important birthday: a spiritual birthday. The kids in attendance learned all about the importance of being born again and following Jesus.
Wildside is the youth ministry at The Hope Center. In addition to monthly large event parties during the school year, Wildside hosts Sunday Night Wild on select Sunday evenings during the school year as well as The Crew which is the student leadership development program for older kids in the program. And each summer Wildside hosts Camp Wild, a free day camp for kids in July & August. All Wildside activities are free for kids ages 5-12. Learn more about Wildside and upcoming events by visiting http://www.wildsideyouth.com.
Your financial donations to The Hope Center help fund these important activities for kids in Hagerstown. We are able to keep Wildside and our other programs and services for free for our guests because of generous and faithful supporters in our community. Thank you for your support of The Hope Center as we continue to reach everyone in our community – even kids – for Christ!

Christmas is a special time of year for families all over the country. So at the Hope Center we want to make sure that Christmas is special and fun for our residents. Some of our residents arrived at the Hope Center totally without anything – money, clothes or even a family. Some arrive at the bottom-of-the-barrel, being sent by their families as a last-ditch effort to change. But no matter what reason or circumstance brought them to the Hope Center, at Christmas time we all come together to celebrate as one family.
Each Christmas Eve, the staff and residents celebrate Christmas together. With Christmas Eve on Saturday this year, we held our Christmas service on Friday. We enjoyed celebrating the birth of Christ together by singing Christmas carols, playing games and exchanging gifts. Staff member Lynn Harney spoke to everyone about the Christmas story while using popular Christmas carols as examples.
We want to make this holiday special for the residents. Many of them were not able to go home with their families to celebrate. But the men did enjoy playing the games and challenging each other. Then they each received a gift bag full of gifts from the Hope Center as well as individuals in the community. After the Christmas service, the residents and staff enjoyed a delicious Christmas lunch together.
Thanks to everyone who provided gifts, cookies and other items to help make Christmas special for our residents. This time of year can be difficult for many people but it’s good for our residents to know that there are so many in the community who support them and are praying for their success in the program! Thanks again for supporting these guys and helping us to make their Christmas special!
On Tuesday, November 15th the Trinity Center came alive with the sights and sounds of Thanksgiving! No, we didn’t have an early Thanksgiving feast for the community. Instead, it was a Wildside Thanksgiving!
Over 70 kids from various parts of Hagerstown came together to celebrate, party and give thanks. There were tons of games, great prizes and the best food! The kids were told to wear as much brown as possible for a chance to win prizes.
In addition to all the games and food, Adrian gave a great lesson to the kids. And four kids came forward during the altar call!
But it wouldn’t be a Thanksgiving party without some really good food and our incredible volunteers that made sure the Wildside kids had plenty of great food to eat. Not only do the volunteers serve the food – they make it too! They are a HUGE blessing to the program. Thanks Dana for organizing such a great group of food volunteers!
Some people think that Thanksgiving is the “forgotten” holiday. It gets wedged between Halloween & Christmas and is often overshadowed by Black Friday. But Wildside sure did a great job making Thanksgiving a star this year! It’s great to remind each of us to be thankful for all that God has provided. Thanks, Wildside, for throwing such an awesome event!
Go ahead and mark your calendars for Wildside’s next event. ‘Ping’s Famous Igloo Carnival’ will be held at the Trinity Center on December 13th from 4:30-6:30. This is a Christmas event you won’t want your kids to miss!
If you’re interested in bringing your kids to the next event, check out wildsidekids.com or Wildside’s facebook page. If you’d like to speak to someone, call 301.739.1165 and ask for Adrian or Fran.
