Washington County Gives has Started!

Washington County Gives is a 24-hour period of online giving for various non-profits in Washington County. We are participating for the second year.

WashCo Gives 1And now is your chance to join your neighbors in supporting The Hope Center and our renovation and expansion of our food services. Our food services is a major component of the ministry at The Hope Center. From serving multiple daily meals to our residents and community guests, to providing food assistance through our food bag program to families and individuals, to providing special events like our Great Hagerstown Thanksgiving Feast, our food program takes care of thousands of people a year.

Our kitchen, dining room, and pantry are inefficient and too small for the number of guests we serve each year. We are raising money to renovate and expand our food services area so we can serve and feed more men, women, and children each year.

By donating online today at Washington County Gives, you’ll be helping to feed thousands of people in the years to come. Our goal is to make sure no one is ever without access to food and that no one in our city is ever food insecure.

Washington County Gives – Help Us Feed More Families

On May 1st we’re participating in washingtoncountygives.org. This is a wonderful opportunity for people all over the area to give to non-profits quickly and easily during the 24-hour online day of giving.

But why give to The Hope Center? Great question. We are currently in the beginning process of renovating and expanding our food services area. We serve multiple meals a day and hand out hundreds of food bags a year. All food services are free to anyone and everyone in the community – men, women, families, old, young – it doesn’t matter. No one will go hungry in our community.

But as the need grows, so must our facilities. Feeding those in need in the area is a top priority and generous people in the community have been absolutely fantastic about donating food to keep our pantry stocked so that we can continue to feed thousands each year.

WashCoGives Why 1-page1

Unfortunately, our pantry is not really close to being the size we need it to be to feed thousands each year. And we’re so blessed to have the food resources we need – we just don’t have enough space to store all the various food items needed to serve daily meals to our residents, overnight and community guests and also pack food bags for families. Part of the renovation and expansion will include a total overhaul and expansion of our pantry so that we can store more food therefore allowing us to feed more people and do it much more efficiently.

A donation as little as $10 on May 1st will go a long way into helping us bring our food services up-to-date. To learn more about our food services and other free programs to the community please visit http://www.hagerstownhopecenter.com.

Washington County Gives – So Can You!

On Tuesday, May 1st, we will be participating in the 2018 Washington County Gives online giving campaign.

WashCo Gives 1

Washington County Gives is a special 24-hour time period of online giving to benefit various local non-profits. From midnight to midnight on May 1st, you can go to http://www.washingtoncountygives.org and make an online donation to The Hope Center. But raising online support from generous donors isn’t the only part of the event. The more money we raise then the more prize money we earn. Each hour a non-profit can win bonus funds if they raise the most online dollars during that time period. And the more we raise the more we can earn.

You may be asking, “why should I give during Washington County Gives?” That’s a very valid question, especially if you are a current donor to our ministry. This year we’re not just trying to raise money to cover our normal operating expenses. We are currently in the beginning process of starting a refurbishment and expansion project of our dining and kitchen areas at The Hope Center.

We’ve already met with architects, designers and city officials to get the go-ahead to start a total renovation of our food services area. Once completed, the new dining, kitchen and pantry areas will allow us to host more guests for our free meals while also providing us with a more up-to-date modern kitchen that will make the work of preparing and serving so many people so much more efficient. And we will also be expanding our pantry to be able to hold more food for our kitchen and food bag ministry. Currently, the dining, kitchen and pantry are very tight and often times crowded areas. By renovating and expanding, we’re able to meet one of the areas of our entire ministry that is seeing the biggest growth and demand.

And we’re not just feeding homeless men. There are many women and children who come to The Hope Center in need of a hot meal, a food bag, and just some smiling faces. With your donation during Washington County Gives, you’re helping us feed more people who are hungry in our area than ever before.

So on May 1st, go to http://www.washingtoncountygives.com and type Hope Center in the upper right search box on the home page. From there you can make any size donation starting at $10. Please invite your family and friends to join you in pledging to support The Hope Center and our vision and goal to fully combat hunger and hopelessness in Hagerstown.

Yo Ho! It’s A Pirates Life!

On Tuesday, September 19th, we celebrated one of America’s most important holidays, Talk Like A Pirate Day!

That’s right, all guests who came to our daily Soup Line were a part of a pirate party! In addition to the delicious meal prepared by our fantastic kitchen staff, our guests were given pirate treats, prizes, candy, and even got a little free piratical entertainment thanks to our in-house pirate, Lynn Harney, who works in our residential men’s program, Foundations Life Recovery.

It was a fun day for everyone as we ate, laughed, and enjoyed great food & company.

Our Soup Line is a free lunch program that we host every day of the year, including holidays and during inclement weather. Anyone of any age is welcome to join us for a warm meal and the occasional random celebration like our Pirate Party this week. For more information on our Soup Line or other food services programs at The Hope Center please visit http://www.hagerstownhopecenter.com or call us at 301.739.1165.

Want to help fight hunger in Hagerstown? You can easily help us in our daily fight against hunger in our community by donating food to our food services program. Between the several fresh meals we serve daily to our food bank program and various large community events like our annual Great Hagerstown Thanksgiving Feast, there’s a lot of food that we need to keep our pantry stocked and to make sure that no one in the greater Hagerstown area has to worry about their next meal.
