Happy, Happy Halloween!

Today may be Halloween but Wildside Youth started celebrating a little early!

Last Tuesday around 60 kids from Hagerstown enjoyed an evening of costumes, games, spooks, stories, and plenty of great food at our annual Fall-O-Ween party. The Trinity Center was transformed into a Halloween-themed carnival where kids were able to play all sorts of different games where they could win various Halloween prizes. In addition to the carnival games, the kids braved a spooky tunnel that delivered them into a “spooky room” with more Halloween fun!

The night wasn’t all games and prizes. Nothing is more exciting on Halloween than a good story which is exactly what Wildside delivered. The kids heard the tale of Tartan the Werewolf who helped to tell a valuable tale to the kids about how God loves us and welcomes us into His family even though He is perfect and we are not. Based off the verse, “even if my father and mother abandoned me, the Lord would take me in”, the story is helping to remind these kids that they are so important and valuable to God and they are never alone or forgotten.

But is it really a party without some great food? Volunteers cooked up some scary good food for the kids who came and provided Halloween treats for everyone. Everyone had a great time at Fall-O-Ween but we couldn’t have done it without all of the staff and volunteers who put so much time and work into making these events so much fun for all of the kids who attend. And we can’t forget to thank each of you who help to support The Hope Center through prayer, financial support, and other means to help us continue to keep all activities, programs and services free for everyone, including kids, in our community! Thank you for helping provide such a wonderfully frightening night for these kids!

Every year Fall-O-Ween is a fun evening of Halloween fun where kids can be themselves and enjoy this holiday in a safe environment. But the Wildside fun is just getting started! There are plenty more parties and events coming up including Wildside’s Thanksgiving party in a few short weeks as well as hosting some games and other activities during our Great Hagerstown Thanksgiving Feast on Thanksgiving Day, November 23rd, starting at 11am in the Trinity Center. Urgent Need: Halloween Candy

In case you haven’t noticed by everything pumpkin, it’s October which means that very soon little ghosts and goblins will be going door to door begging for candy from all their neighbors.

We’re sure that many of you and your family are in preparations for trick-or-treat. From finding the perfect costume to carving pumpkins we are all in the process of being prepared for one of the most jovial holiday traditions in America.

We aren’t exactly preparing for trick-or-treat as much as we are getting ready for our annual fall Party-in-the-Park which takes place on October 22nd at Wheaton Park in Hagerstown.

Our Party-in-the-Park is a great outreach opportunity for us to get into one of the neighborhoods around The Hope Center to meet neighbors and build relationships with them. One of the big attractions at our Party-in-the-Park is the giant candy scramble.

halloween-candy-2But to make the giant candy scramble possible we need tons of candy. And we’re asking for your assistance. We need as many bags of individually wrapped candy donated as possible. Candy is expensive but if each of us buy one or two bags then we can easily make this a great event for our neighbors in the Jonathan Street neighborhood.

The next time you go to your favorite grocer please remember us and the people we’ll be ministering to and grab a bag or more of candy for our event. Candy donation is a great way to get your church, workplace or civic club involved.

halloween-candy-4The Party-in-the-Park is on Saturday, October 22nd so we are asking that all donated candy please be dropped off at our Administrative Office by Wednesday, October 19th. Our office is open M-F 8:30am-4:30pm.

For questions about the event or candy donations or for more information please call 301.739.1165 or email us at hagerstownrescue@verizon.net.

Volunteers Needed: Party-in-the-Park!

falloween-16-001It’s back! Our annual fall Party-in-the-Park is taking place on Saturday, October 22nd, 2016 from 3-6pm at Wheaton Park in Hagerstown.

This is a great opportunity for you and your family, friends, church group or civic club to get involved in the community and volunteer. We’re looking for people who can help us in many different ways like event set up, registration, games, prize distribution, food distribution, face painting, clean up crew and much more.

There are many different ways for you to participate as a volunteer but no matter how you are involved, seeing the smiles and hearing the excitement of all the kids and families who come to our Party-in-the-Park is worth it.

This is such an important event as we work to establish a connection with our surrounding neighborhoods. We want our neighbors to know that we’re here to help, care and love them and this is one of the ways that we can show them.

Building a strong presence in our neighboring communities is important to changing lives and creating an avenue to impact lives for Christ.

We’re not asking much, just one Saturday afternoon and a few hours of your time to help potentially change a life for eternity.

If you’re interested in volunteering then please call 301.739.1165 or email hagerstownrescue@verizon.net as soon as possible. We do rely on volunteers to make this event possible so if you’re able to help please do.
