Chick-Fil-A Brings the Happy (and, of course, some Chicken)

Who wouldn’t love a lunch provided by Chick-Fil-A for free? It’s basically everyone’s dream. And for our residents and Soup Line guests that dream became a reality last weekend when staff from Chick-Fil-A in Hagerstown stopped by The Hope Center to host lunch!

Thirteen Chick-Fil-A team members helped prepare, serve, and interact with all of the men, women and children who joined us for lunch. Lead by Mary Teal Medina, the Marketing Director, and Matt Roach, Operations Director, the crew served a delicious meal of BBQ chicken sandwiches, chicken noodle soup over a hot biscuit, and a cookie. And to wash it all down our guests enjoyed some of that delicious southern style sweet tea that is wildly popular at Chick-Fil-A!

It was another full house during Soup Line and our guests enjoyed the great food and good company.

We are so thankful for the team from Chick-Fil-A for volunteering and being involved in helping us feed those in need in Hagerstown. We would gladly welcome Chick-Fil-A back any time, and we know our guests would too!

Thank you so much, Chick-Fil-A of Hagerstown, for taking time out of your schedule to share with our residents and guests!

If you’re reading this and craving some great fast food then swing by Chick-Fil-A on Wesel Blvd in Hagerstown for a sandwich, grilled nuggets, waffle fries, and Chick-Fil-A sauce…or just get whatever makes your heart happy on that menu because you know it’s gonna taste great!

If you, your business, scout troop, church, or civic group would like to join Chick-Fil-A and other local restaurants in serving our lunch guests then please give us a call at 301.739.1165 or email hagerstownrescue@verizon.net. There’s a genuine need for food assistance in our community and we’re so thrilled to have restaurants in the area team up with us and our other donors and volunteers to combat hunger and hopelessness in Hagerstown. You can join the fight! Go to http://www.hagerstownhopecenter.com to learn more about who we are, what we do, and how you can be a part of helping neighbors in need in Hagerstown and the surrounding communities!

Guests Enjoyed a Wonderful Easter Cantata

On Saturday, March 23rd, the choirs from Maranatha Brethren Church and Waynesboro Grace Brethren Church hosted a beautiful night of music and food to celebrate Easter!

The joint choirs performed an Easter Cantata called “The Story”, which tells about the powerful life, death & resurrection of Christ through beautiful music.

Following the service, the two churches served a delicious, hot meal of homemade chili, bread and desserts. A perfect meal for a cold evening!

There were between 40-50 volunteers who helped to serve the guests in attendance. This is the 3rd time that Maranatha has hosted a cantata for the community and each one has seen a rise in attendance.

We want to thank Dan Thorton, cantata director and pastor at Maranatha, and the choirs and volunteers from both churches for providing such a wonderful night for our guests in the community! We hope to continue having these cantatas every holiday season!

If you would like to support the choirs from Maranatha & Waynesboro Grace then be sure to go to one of their shows this weekend. On Saturday, March 30th at 7pm, the cantata will be presented at Waynesboro Grace Brethren (250 Philadelphia Ave, Waynesboro, PA). It will then be performed again on Easter Sunday, March 31st at 7pm at Maranatha Brethren Church (19835 Scott Hill Dr, Hagerstown).

For more info or directions, please call Maranatha Brethren at 301.733.1717 or Waynesboro Grace Brethren at 717.762.5826. You can also check out their websites at www.maranathagbc.net and www.waynesborochurch.org.

It’s a Tad Crowded

Every day at 1pm, 1:30pm on Sunday, our kitchen is host to our SoupLine program.

SoupLine is a free lunch experience for anyone in the community who needs a hot meal for free.

Five minutes before lunch is served, a Hope Center staff person leads a small devotional with an inspirational or motivational message followed by prayer.

As the economy continues to struggle, our numbers have been on the increase. We feed all types of people each day at SoupLine. From single men & women, to families and young adults, our kitchen has been busting at the seams.

As this economy keeps making it more difficult for people to afford food in addition to other expenses, we believe that our numbers will continue to rise. Unfortunately, we are already hitting capacity.

Now is the time that we start looking for new solutions to our dining issues. We’re beginning to look for options to expand to allow us more opportunity to reach people’s physical needs so that we can touch their spiritual needs as well.

As we begin to explore different options for the future of our food services ministry, please continue to support us as we feed hundreds of hungry people a week. Your continued financial support helps to keep our kitchen open for our daily guests. And any food donations help to keep our pantry stocked, not just for our residents or guests but also hungry families in desperate need of groceries.

While at the grocery store this weekend, why not pick up some extra items to donate to The Hope Center? We are always in need of these items:

  • Peanut butter (16 oz)
  • Sugar
  • Creamer
  • Spaghetti
  • Spaghetti sauce
  • Rice
  • Egg Noodles

If you are interested in donating items for our pantry or organizing a food drive, please call 301.739.1165 or email hagerstownrescue@verizon.net for detailed info.
