The 12 Gifts of Christmas: Day One

We’ve made our Christmas wish list and we’ve checked it twice and now we’re sharing it with you in the hopes that you can share it with others too!

From now until Christmas we’ll randomly post 12 different gift ideas that you, your family, church, friends, co-workers, civic club, and scout troop can help us get to make 2019 another stellar year. And if you are considering having a food drive many items on this list are a good starter for donated items for your drive!

The 12 Gifts of Christmas are things that we need all throughout the year so you can always keep this list and reference it as the seasons change in 2019.

So lets, get our 2018 Christmas list started…

12 Gifts 2018 1-001

There’s no better way to start our Christmas list than the way most of us start our day – with coffee! We have a lot of overnight guests and a lot of people eating their meals with us so you can only imagine how much coffee we go through each year as we feed thousands of people. So we are always desperately in need of coffee and powdered creamer. Any bit of coffee helps so pick up your favorite or grab one that’s on sale; we’ll use it and our guests will enjoy it no matter what!

To donate just stop by our office Monday – Friday from 8am – 5pm. If you’re unable to drop it off during those hours please give us a call at 301.739.1165 or email us at hagerstownrescue@verizon.net.

Any gift donation, big or small, is always welcomed and important to the continued success of this ministry. We appreciate any support from the community. But the most impactful thing is to share this with as many people as you can! We’ll be posting each of the 12 Gifts of Christmas on our Facebook page so you can always spread the holiday cheer through our social media pages. If you don’t follow us on Facebook just go to http://www.facebook.com/hopecenterhagerstown.

Celebrate National Coffee Day!

Coffee is probably the most important part of everyone’s breakfast routine. We all need a good cup of joe to jolt the brain awake and prepare us for the stresses and happiness of each new day.

coffee2On September 29th, America is celebrating our most beloved hot beverage! Stores and businesses across the country are offering free cups of coffee or special coupons to celebrate the day.

A coffee lover comes in many different shapes & sizes. We hail from the Northeast to the Southwest and even places like Alaska & Hawaii. Coffee lovers come from all social backgrounds and are all ages. Pretty much, everyone is a coffee lover.

As you enjoy your morning brew or celebrate with an afternoon latte, remember that not everyone has the opportunity to enjoy a hot cup of coffee each day. There are people who have fallen on hard times and don’t have the resources to drink a cup of coffee each day.

Join us in helping to restore hope to these people by starting with a cup of coffee. It may sound silly, but a cup of joe can help break down barriers and be the first step to building a relationship that could change a life forever!

At The Hope Center, we go through a lot of coffee. From our residents, to our transient guests, to our daily meal guests, to our weekly Koffee Klatch ladies group, there is a lot of coffee consumed. And all that coffee consumption can quickly add up.

Our pantry runs low on essentials, like coffee & sugar, quite often. So why not help celebrate National Coffee Day by grabbing a cup for yourself and a container of coffee for those in need?

This weekend as you go to your favorite grocery store, pick up an extra can or jug of coffee for The Hope Center. Something as small as a can of coffee can go along way. By supplying us with coffee, you allow us to use our resources for other programs & ministries to help reach people in need for Christ.

Money that would be spent purchasing coffee & sugar can go towards helping men break from their addictions that have destroyed their lives. This money can go towards providing comfortable beds and warm blankets for the homeless during the cold winter months. There are so many ways that your coffee donation can actually help make a difference in our city.

But the most important way that your coffee donation can make a difference is that someone who feels lost, desperate and alone knows that there are caring, loving people in this world and there is a great, loving and compassionate God who wants the best for them.

Restoring hope and changing lives is too big for humans. It’s a God-sized task. He just asks that we show His love so He can rescue lives.

And love can come in all forms, even a cup of coffee.

If you would like to donate coffee or get involved on a regular basis at The Hope Center, please call 301.739.1165 or email hagerstownrescue@verizon.net.

To drop off coffee & sugar donations, please stop by our Administrative Office, Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm. If you need to arrange another time, please call us at 301.739.1165.

If your church, Sunday School class, youth group, civic organization, Boy/Girl Scout troop, business or any other group would like to host a Coffee & Sugar Drive, please contact us for details. This is a wonderful way for the community to pull together to help make a difference.

Thank you for caring & sharing! Your support helps tremendously!

Koffee Klatch is free but is open to women only. Thank you!

Hey Ladies- Check Out Koffee Klatch

Ladies, do you ever wish there was a great Bible study and fellowship time just for you? Maybe you’re retired and looking for some other women in the same stage of life with whom to socialize. Perhaps you’re widowed and would love to associate with other believers who have dealt with the same issues as you.

Whether you’re retired, a stay-at-home wife, a widow or just looking for a solid Bible study and time of fellowship then you should definitely check out Koffee Klatch.

Koffee Klatch is a weekly Bible study and social time for women at the Hope Center. Each Thursday at 9 am, the dining area at the Hope Center comes to life with women mingling, laughing and enjoying donuts and coffee.

At 10 am, the ladies move into the chapel at the Hope Center for music, prayer time and a Bible lesson. This hour long service is a great time for the ladies to grow together in the Word. This is a safe place to hear how God is working and moving in the lives of other women and it can be a great opportunity for women to bring prayer concerns to each other to join together to pray.

Marie, a widow who has been attending Koffee Klatch for 10 years, says that the thing she likes the best about Koffee Klatch is the “basic Bible teaching”. She says that “as we sing & pray together there is a sense of peace and joy. We find comfort in each other and share our faith.”

For 9 years Dorothy has been attending Koffee Klatch and she feels that other women in the area should attend Koffee Klatch for “good Christian fellowship and to learn God’s Word”. She says that she really enjoys the fellowship and studying God’s Word with other Christian ladies.

If you’ve been in need of a solid Bible study geared just for women, then don’t hesitate to check out Koffee Klatch. Possibly you know of some women in your family or at your church who could benefit from extra quality time with other female believers.

Koffee Klatch is free for all women, but there is no childcare on site. The Koffee Klatch Bible study runs during the school year from September until June. The time of fellowship is from 9am-10am followed by a Bible study from 10am-11am.

If you’ve got some free time on Thursday mornings, stop by the Hope Center for Koffee Klatch! For more info call 301.739.1165 or email hagerstownrescue@verizon.net.

Nothing’s Better than a Good Cup o’ Joe!

During the month of January, Maranatha Brethren Church has been highlighting the Hope Center to their church family each Sunday.

In addition to highlighting the various ministries and programs that take place at the Hope Center, Maranatha also asked the people of the church to donate coffee and sugar for our pantry.

We are so happy to say that the people responded in such a generous way! Coffee and sugar are two very important items in our pantry, for obvious reasons! The residents and guests enjoy a nice cup of coffee each day and therefore we go through a lot of coffee each month.

It’s amazing how important something so ordinary as a fresh cup of coffee can be to a person! We are so thankful that Maranatha was able to collect so much coffee and sugar for the many people that will visit our facilities looking for a warm meal and a good cup of joe!

We are so grateful for individuals, organizations and churches like Maranatha for partnering with us to reach the least, the last and the lost. If your church, club or organization would like to highlight the Hope Center, please call our office at 301.739.1165 or email us at hagerstownrescue@verizon.net for more info.
