Thank You, Eaton of Williamsport!!

Recently the awesome employees at Eaton in Williamsport had a community drive to collect various items for our residents and guests. DSC_0741

They collected things like socks, washcloths, food, toothpaste, brushes, and other personal care items.

We want to send out a huge THANK YOU to the employees at Eaton, and especially, Jamie, Judy, and Bea who organized the donation drive and also Maddi for reaching out to us.

DSC_0734We are so thankful for this much needed donation to The Hope Center! While food donations are important and much needed, we also often need things like personal care items, medicines, pillows, towels, washcloths and the such. With the men who are residents in our 13-month program, Foundations Life Recovery, as well as the hundreds of transient/homeless who seek shelter every night of the year, we go through a lot of personal care items. And we also gladly hand out personal care items to people in the community who are in need. So receiving these items is such a huge blessing to our program.

Thank you again to everyone at Eaton in Williamsport who was a part of this donation drive!

If you, your place of employment, civic club, church, scout troop, or another organization want to host a food or personal care drive like Eaton then please contact us. We feed thousands of people each year and give out personal care items just as often to anyone in our community in need. These donations help us keep our costs down so we can continue to provide all services free of charge for all guests and residents – especially since we take no government funding or tax money. A tub of toothpaste, a pair of socks, and a jar of peanut butter may not seem like much but they can make the difference in the lives of a needy neighbor more than you will ever know.

Camp Wild 2018 Needs List

We’re less than a month until the start of Camp Wild 2018! We’re always as excited as the campers each year for the return of Camp Wild. But preparing and operating Camp Wild is a lot of work and requires so much.

Camp Wild 2

Camp Wild is a free week-long day camp for kids ages 5-12 in Hagerstown. The camp operates for four weeks each summer and focuses on kids from four different regions in Hagerstown. Each week is a target area where kids living in those areas can receive complimentary transportation to and from camp each day. In addition to free transportation, the campers also enjoy free lunch, snacks, activities, art projects, prizes, and more! To learn more about Camp Wild go to http://www.campwildusa.com.

Camp Wild can host around 60 kids each week for the four weeks of camp. Kids are free to come whichever week they want but complimentary transportation can only be provided in the designated week schedule.

Camp Wild is dedicated to the principles first established over 40 years ago when Conoco Camp first opened its doors for inner-city kids. The Hope Center and Camp Wild believe that every child should have a summer filled with fun, adventure, and new friendships and children should be given a chance to experience something new and different. But most importantly, all of this should be done in a safe, encouraging environment where kids are able to learn about Jesus in ways geared specific to their lives and culture. To make sure that every kid has this opportunity we’ve kept Camp Wild free – and it’s been that way dating all the way back to the very beginning.

But to keep it free we need the assistance of our faithful community to provide the essentials to keep Camp Wild free and operational each year. Now is your chance to help reach over 200 kids, and their families, this summer simply by providing some of the items on our needs list below. And spreading the word to your family, friends, church family, social networks, coworkers, and local businesses never hurts. We appreciate any donation you can give and we greatly appreciate continued prayer all summer long.

Once you’ve purchased items, please feel free to drop them off at our Administrative Office whenever you can. The Admin Office is located on 125 N. Prospect Street but parking and entrance is off of our central parking lot on Church Street between Prospect and Walnut Streets. To talk to someone about Camp Wild donations please call 301.739.1165 or email hagerstownrescue@verizon.net. Thank you so much for caring and sharing with the kids of Hagerstown this summer!

Who’s Ready for Camp Wild 2018?!!!

As we welcome June the countdown is on for summer which means that Camp Wild isn’t very far away!

In fact, on May 15th Wildside hosted their annual Camp Wild Kick-Off party in the Trinity Center. The camp themed party was full of fun activities and previews of Camp Wild 2018 as well as an opportunity for families to register their kids on the spot for a free week of camp.

Camp Wild is a free day camp for kids ages 5-12 in Hagerstown that runs for four weeks in the summer. Camp Wild is Monday – Friday, 9:30-4:30 each day, including rainy days.

Kids are able to attend Camp Wild one of the four weeks offered in the summer. Each week of Camp Wild targets a certain area of Hagerstown. Kids are welcome to attend any one of the four weeks, but transportation will be provided to certain areas during designated weeks only. While Camp Wild is free, space is limited so don’t delay registering your child if interested.

Camp Wild 2018 dates:

  • July 9-13 – North End
  • July 16-20 – West End
  • July 30 – August 3 – South End
  • August 6-10 – East End

The campers will spend their mornings in our Trinity Center indoor recreational building and their afternoons at our outdoor Camp Wild facility just outside of Hagerstown on the Conococheague Creek. Morning activities include games, prizes, theme time which includes singing & dancing, interactive Bible lessons, and other fun activities, small group time where kids can connect with each other and a counselor to build relationships and dig deeper into the daily theme, and last but not least, lunch where each camper will enjoy a main course, drink and a snack!

In the afternoon campers are transported to our outdoor facility where they will experience various themed areas like Africa, Asia, and Latin America. These themed lands provide kids with plenty of fun activities like inner-tube rides, swimming in the Conococheague Creek, art projects, hiking, learning expeditions, and flying over the savanna on our 600 foot long zip line!

If you are interested in signing your kids up for Camp Wild then don’t wait any longer! Call us today at 301.739.1165 or email us at info@wildsideyouth.com. It’s Finally Time for Some Spring Cleaning!

For a time it seemed like winter would never end! But those April showers helped to bring May flowers and some warmer weather. It’s always such a joy to watch the earth come back to life and to hear all the birds singing and enjoying the warmer temperatures.

With two Thrift Stores (Hagerstown & Chambersburg), we always welcome your gently used clothing, shoes, furniture, jewelry, housewares, and more.
